Simple inculcation of certain foods into one’s daily diet could prove immensely beneficial in warding off several cancers.

Pistachios

PistachiosThese ‘good-for-you’ nuts when consumed about two ounces on a daily basis could lower the risk of developing lung cancer and other  forms of cancers with no major variations in one’s BMI or body mass index. It is an identified fact that vitamin E offers a level of safeguard against certain types of cancers. Higher ingestion of gamma-tocopherol – a type of vitamin E could lower lung cancer risk. Pistachios are a great means of getting one’s dose of gamma-tocopherol.

Pistachios are also identified to be highly beneficial for cardiovascular health as it lowers cholesterol and provides anti-oxidants that are classically present in food products of plant derivation.

Soy

SoyIntake of soy food has been shown to reduce mortality and relapse of breast cancer. Soy foods are high in isoflavones – a main set of phytoestrogens which have been theorized to lower breast cancer risk. But, the estrogen-alike consequence of isoflavones and the probable contact in between isoflavones and tamoxifen have led to growing apprehensions regarding soy food intake among those women having breast cancer. However, according to the recently conducted Shanghai Breast Cancer Survival Study, higher consumption of soy food has however been found to offer no additional benefits on the same and having a moderate consumption is deemed safe and potentially advantageous to breast cancer patients.

CoffeeScientists from the Harvard Medical School, US, believe that coffee has constituents other than caffeine that could aid in warding off perilous prostate cancers. They drew conclusions on the basis of the 2-decade old study on nearly fifty thousand men found that those men that had a regular drink of the beverage were observed to be sixty percent less prone to developing the swiftly proliferating, difficult to cure cancerous forms as compared to those who did not drink coffee. The researchers state that coffee has been observed to influence insulin and sex hormone levels as well as glucose metabolism – all of whom don crucial roles in prostate cancer.

Oily Fish and Seafood

Oily Fish and SeafoodAccording to a latest study, the long-chain omega-3 fatty acids principally present in fish and seafood has been observed to lower the risk of developing distal large bowel cancer. The study showed that those who had increased consumption of fish and other kinds of seafood were thirty-nine percent less likely to be detected with bowel cancer as compared to those who hardly ever or did not eat them.

The long-chain omega-3 fatty acids is abundantly present in oily fish forms like salmons, mackerels, sardines and herrings and has been observed to be especially helpful in preventing bowel cancer. The oils have also been proven to have a myriad of other health benefits like curbing risk of heart ailments and are known to augment brain power among infants.
